KOLKATA: Two persons allegedly barged into a house on Rotu Sarkar Lane at Jorasanko in central Kolkata, held a young woman and her mother at “gun point” and attempted to rob jewellery and cash on Thursday evening. The accused, Sk Adil Hussain and Md Arman, were arrested from the Park Street area on Friday.
An investigation by the Jorasanko police revealed that the gun, used by the duo to scare the two women, was a cigarette lighter. Cops said the mastermind of the robbery bid was a relative of the women.
On Thursday evening, the two women were alone at home when the accused sneaked into their house.
“One of the accused guarded outside while the other went inside and scared the young woman to take valuables from the house. As her mother entered the room, she raised an alarm and the accused fled with whatever he had in his hands,” said a police source. However, senior officers claimed that nothing was robbed from the house.
“A probe is on to ascertain whether others are involved in the robbery bid,” said DC (Central) Rupesh Kumar.
