TIRUVARUR: The all women police arrested two people including the grandmother of a 17-year-old girl on charges of conducting the minor’s marriage near Tiruvarur. Police is also searching for few others in connection with the incident.
According to police, the arrested were identified as a 69-year-old woman, a resident of Tiruvarur and her 35-year-old relative, a divorcee from Paravakottai.
The woman had married off her 17-year-old granddaughter to the 35-year-old man against her wishes on September 8, police said. Based on information about the marriage, the district child welfare officials lodged a complaint with all women police in Tiruvarur. Police registered a case and arrested the woman and the man under Pocso Act and remanded them in judicial custody, police said.
