Two held after police chase men fleeing 'stolen car'

Two men were arrested after police chased a group fleeing from a suspected stolen car.

Police said the dramatic chase took place in the early hours of Friday, at about 2.50am in Prescot.

Two men were held after they ran away from a reportedly stolen Peugeot 108, police said.

The car was spotted with its lights off by officers in the dark on Prescot Park Way, but it did not stop when it was signalled to pull over.

After eventually stopping, three men ran away into a nearby field in an attempt to flee.

Officers raced towards the men in the fields, close to Coronation Drive, and police said they apprehended two men.

A spokesman for the force said "It was established the car had been stolen during a burglary on Dennett Road earlier this morning.

"A 28-year-old man of no fixed address was arrested on suspicion of burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, failure to stop, and drug driving.

2A 36-year-old man from Fazakerley were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and burglary.

"They have been taken to a police station to be interviewed."
