Two Haryana men held for Rs 1.5-lakh ATM fraud in Rajasthan

KOTA: City police arrested two men from Haryana for allegedly withdrawing Rs 1,49,700 from a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM in the railway station area under Bhemganj Mandi police station by interrupting its power and internet connections in September.

While the two accused, Niyamat (33) son of Deen Mohammed, and Parvej (25) son of Hamid, residents of Mewat in Haryana, were produced before a residential court that ordered five-day police remand for the duo on Sunday, the other accused, Farukh, of the same area, is yet to be nabbed.

An SBI railway station branch deputy manager lodged a complaint of illegal transition of Rs 1,49, 700 through tampering of ATM power cable and internet connectivity between September 22 and 25, DSP and CO Bhagwat Singh Hingad said.

The accused collected ATM cards of various banks from their relatives on the pretext of giving them more money in return and used the cards to cheat banks, Hingad said.

While withdrawing the amount, one of the two accused initiated the process of withdrawal and the other interrupted the power supply and tamper with the net connectivity, he said.

When the cash hit the tray, a message of the transaction being declined popped up in the records of the concerned bank, but the amount got debited from the account of the ATM card holder, he said.

The duo picked the cash and asked the ATM card holder to register a complaint of wrongful deduction with the bank concerned, he said.

On being claimed, the concerned bank paid the amount debited, he said.
