Two Hamilton tukido students enjoyed a cracking year, winning medals and passing gradings

Two of Hamilton Tukido Club’s junior members went from strength to strength last year, winning British Championships medals and passing their gradings.

John Browne took gold in the junior free sparring category, while Harvey Henderson gained silver in the sparring forms.

Both youngters, who are 11, fought their way through the junior free sparring category and finally met each other in the final, with John winning gold and Harvey taking his second silver.

John and Harvey then passed their second grading, alongside three of their club coaches in Lisa Noak, Terri Elkin and Paul Browne, under Tukido founder, Grandmaster Hock Aun The.

Coach Andrew Newall said: “John and Harvey joined Tukido last year and very quickly took to the training.

“Both students consistently work hard in the classes and their efforts are showing results.”

Andrew added: “The martial art of Tukido blends cardiovascular exercise and dynamic or static stretching into a session of combat techniques, building up to an intense workout.

“Grandmaster The relocated to Scotland from Malaysia and it was while in Scotland that he developed Tukido, using his vast experience gained from training in martial arts.”

Hamilton Tukido Club trains on a Monday and Thursday evening at Hillhouse Parish Church hall from 7pm to 8pm.

Anybody interested in joining can go along and try out a class or two, with no obligation to join.
