Two guns found in woodland after reports of 'shots fired'

A second firearm was found by police in woodland following reports of shots being fired.

On Sunday, officers were seen searching an area of woodland in Wavertree and a firearm was found at Wavertree Sports Park at around 11.30am by police carrying out a search on Wellington Road.

It came after reports a gun had been fired on Wellington Road on Friday, December 17.

Police said on Sunday, during the search a weapon was recovered for forensic examination.

But in an update today, police confirmed a second firearm had been recovered by officers carrying out open land searches at Wavertree Sports Park.

A spokesperson for the force said two viable handguns were found together with what is believed to be a quantity of Class A drugs.

Both weapons have been recovered for forensic examination and enquiries remain ongoing.

One man and two women were arrested on suspicion of possession of a section one firearm on Friday, December 17.

Merseyside Police confirmed on Sunday the women have now been released on bail, while the male, Saeed Ahmed, was charged.

The 39-year-old of Wellington Road, Wavertree, was charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He was remanded in custody and appeared at Magistrates Court today.

Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald said: “Every weapon we recover is one less out there on the streets that could be used to cause fear, intimidation or harm.”
