Two guns found in south Liverpool garden

Police have recovered two guns from a garden in south Liverpool.

Officers were called out to Garden Lodge Grove in Netherley at around 11.15am yesterday following reports that a gun had been found. Police carried out a search of the area and recovered a second gun and ammunition.

The two weapons have now been sent for forensic testing to see if they have been used in any shootings.  The ECHO understands the guns were found in a garden at a private address.

A police spokesman said: "We recovered suspected firearms in Netherley yesterday, Wednesday 9 October. A report was received at around 11.15am that a suspected gun had been discovered in a garden in Garden Lodge Grove.

"A search of the area was undertaken by officers and a second firearm, along with ammunition was recovered.

"All the items have been safely recovered for forensic enquiries to be carried out."

Detective Chief Inspector Chery Rhodes said to the ECHO : "An investigation has been launched following the recovery of two suspected firearms and ammunition in Netherley, and we will be carrying out a number of enquiries to establish whether they are linked to any recent incidents on Merseyside or elsewhere.

"Thankfully, these dangerous weapons have now been removed from the streets and will no longer potentially cause fear or serious harm to our communities.

“The use of firearms will not be tolerated by Merseyside Police and we will continue to be proactive in our efforts and work with the public to eradicate gun crime.

"The assistance of our communities is vital to this and I would encourage people to continue to come forward with information on gun crime and the storage of weapons, so we can act on it and put those responsible before the courts.

"If anyone has any information about the recovered firearms, those involved in gun crime, or who knows where weapons are being stored, please get in touch. Any information, no matter how small, could prove vital to our investigation."
