Two handguns have been discovered after a search in Knotty Ash.
Police and forensics officers were spotted at a cordon off Colwell Road, on the afternoon of Monday, March 6. Merseyside police have now confirmed that the scene was put in place after officers found two firearms.
The search had been carried out on waste land as part of an ongoing and pre-planned disruption and reassurance campaign. The guns will now be forensically recovered to establish if they are viable weapons.

Detectives confirmed that a search of the area remains ongoing. Detective chief inspector Paul Grounds, from the Firearms Investigation Team, said: "We have recovered two handguns as part of our ongoing disruption activity to target criminality and serious and organised crime.
"The guns have been forensically recovered and will be examined to establish if they are viable weapons. Our enquiries remain ongoing.

"Guns have no place on the streets of Merseyside, and we will do everything in our powers to seize them and put the people who supply or carry them behind bars where they rightfully belong.
"I am pleased that these weapons are in our hands so they cannot be used to cause fear or harm in our communities and I would continue to ask the public to be our eyes and ears and tell us who is carrying these weapons and where are they being stored or hidden. Anyone with information can DM @MerPolCC or call 101. Information can also be given anonymously to CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111."
