Two Goraya men killed as car rams into tree

Two Goraya residents were killed in a road accident on Wednesday night when their Maruti Swift car in which they were travelling from Phagwara to Bara Pind village in Goraya rammed into a tree in the village.

The deceased have been identified as flour mill owner Gurpreet Gopi (34) and Rakesh Kumar (42). Their two friends--Arjun (26) and his cousin Ravish Kumar (34)--suffered injuries and were admitted to a private hospital at Phagwara.

According to information, Ravish, along with Gurpreet and Rakesh, had gone to bring Arjun from the Phagwara railway station at midnight and when they were returning to the village, Ravish failed to control the speeding car, which rammed into the tree before overturning on the road. The two died on the spot.

On hearing their screams, villagers rushed to the spot and took the injured to the civil hospital.

The bodies have been handed over to the families after conducting post-mortem. A case under Section 174 of the CrPC has been registered.
