Two people in Glasgow saved on same day this week after they receive overdose antidote

The lives of two people were 'saved' on the streets in Glasgow this week after they were administered with a medicine that rapidly reverses an opioid overdose.

Naloxone was successfully administered twice on Wednesday (November 10) to two casualties who had been discovered unconscious, Police Scotland has confirmed.

The first incident saw an officer involved in policing duties at COP26 assist colleagues who came across an unconscious person.

A further incident was reported in Glasgow where officers dealing with an unconscious person were approached by a member of the public who was carrying Naloxone, and was able to administer it to the casualty.

On both occasions, the casualties regained consciousness and received further first aid treatment.

All officers who are trained in the use of Naloxone can continue to carry their kits and use them as and when required.

The incidents come following the completion of a six month Naxolone pilot period by Police Scotland, which saw around 200 officers in Glasgow's east end 200 trained to use the nasal spray.
