Two Glasgow pubs forced to close as punter tests positive for coronavirus after breaking self-isolation rules

Two Glasgow pubs have been forced to close after being visited by the same customer who later tested positive for Covid-19.

Bag O’Nails in Partick and the Record Factory on Byres Road have both temporarily closed their doors after the punter visited them both on August 22.

Staff now face an anxious wait to discover whether they have caught the deadly bug amid claims the customer had recently come into contact with a person who had returned from Ibiza but failed to self-isolate.

In a statement, management at Bag O’Nails said: “Unfortunately at this moment in time Bag O’Nails is going to have to remain shut.

“We worked tirelessly post lock down to put in measures and guidelines to protect our customers and staff and provide a safe environment for everyone to enjoy.

“However a member of the public has entered our premises on the 22nd August after 6pm, and has since been confirmed positive for Covid-19.

“They broke government guidelines for isolation and now ourselves and other bars in the area are suffering for it.

“All customers and staff that day have been contacted by the NHS Scotland and advised to self-isolate.

“This decision is purely based on the safety and well being of every member of staff that works here and all of you that come to enjoy our bar.”

The Record Factory also confirmed their temporary closure and said that track and trace teams have contacted all customers that may have come into contact with the virus.

They said: “Record Factory had a customer test positive for Covid 19 on Saturday 22nd August.

“NHS Scotland track and trace have contacted all the individuals who were in the Bar on this day.

“All staff who were on duty have also been self isolating and will continue to do so.

“We have been closed for the last week to carry out a deep clean and full sanitization of the premises.

“We will remain closed this weekend and will provide a further update next week on a reopening date.

“NHS Scotland have not requested us to close, however we felt that it was right to close and have a specialist cleaning team come in to allow us to re-open in as safe an environment as possible.”
