POLICE have charged two teenage girls in relation to a number of violent incidents which have since emerged in a series of videos on social media.

A member of the public posted multiple videos of confrontations involving teenage girls to Facebook on Monday.

In less than six hours, the post had attracted 11,000 comments and been shared by 8000 users.

One of the videos, filmed inside Stockland Green Hills, has close to 300,000 views.

Port-Stephens Hunter Police confirmed on Monday a 14-year-old and 16-year-old were arrested after an incident at the East Maitland shopping centre on Sunday.

"They were arrested at the scene," a spokesman said.

"One has been charged in relation to offences that occurred at Green Hills and the other one has been charged in relation to some offences that occurred previously at Newcastle.

"They will be later appearing at East Maitland Local Court."

The 16-year-old was charged with behaving in an offensive manner, goods in custody and other matters relating to an incident in Newcastle, while the 14-year-old was charged in relation to the Newcastle incident.

Officers had responded to a call from Stockland Green Hills management.

"Security attended the scene and escorted two people from the centre," Centre Manager at Stockland Green Hills Jodie Bouffler said on Monday.

"The safety and security of our customers, retailers and employees is our highest priority and we will continue to cooperate with authorities as they investigate this matter."
