Two giant rats seen crawling over croissants at a Sainsbury's in viral video

A Sainsbury's customer caught footage of a pair of large rats scampering over fresh baked goods in a branch of the supermarket.

In the video, which was shared across social media on Sunday, the two rats can be seen moving over a croissant in the store's bakery section.

The clip was filmed by customer Anthony Mitson, who uploaded the now-viral video onto his Instagram stories.

The video does not reveal which Sainsbury's store the rats were filmed in, and the supermarket has stated that they are currently investigating the incident.

As reported by The Mirror, since being uploaded on Sunday, hundreds have shared their thoughts on the clip - with some criticising Sainsbury's for their handling of their fresh baked goods.

One viewer commented: "This video is a perfect example of why supermarkets need to stop selling pastry out in the open like this. It's not just the rats it's the flies too."

Another added: "I mean, they’re everywhere, but this is particularly gross."

A third shopper said they would never buy loose bakery items again.

On Monday, Mr Mitson uploaded another clip in which a sign can be seen outside the supermarket telling customers the shop is closed.

It reads: "This store is closed at the moment. Sorry for the inconvenience."

A Sainsbury's spokesperson said: "We are immediately investigating with the store."
