Two gerbils found abandoned in cardboard box in Coatbridge tower block

THE Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after two stricken gerbils “thrown out like rubbish” were found in Coatbridge.

The animal welfare charity was alerted to the discovery at the Highcoats block of flats last Monday, May 6.

Senior animal rescue officer, Stephanie Kirk, said: “We were notified by a member of the public who discovered a taped cardboard box that was underneath a pile of household waste with the two gerbils inside.

“These two are so lucky to have been discovered as they could have easily been missed, having been abandoned and thrown out like rubbish.

“Thankfully they are both in good condition and have been taken to one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres where they will receive the appropriate care.

“We would urge anyone who recognises these two gerbils to contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999 with any information.”
