Two gardai rushed to hospital after dangerous driver smashes into squad car

Two gardaí were rushed to hospital earlier this morning after a reckless driver smashed into a squad car.

A man in his 20s has been arrested in relation to the horrific example of dangerous driving

Gardaí first spotted a car driving recklessly on Park Street in Dundalk around 4am.

The driver of the car refused to stop when guards tried to pull them over resulting in a wild car chase.

This was brought to an end at around 4:30am when the reckless driver crashed into a squad car at the Redcow roundabout.

Two gardaí were rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital for their injuries. The passengers of the offending car (A man and two women, in their 20s) were also brought to hospital.

A man in his 20s was brought to Dundalk Garda Station where investigations are ongoing.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A garda spokesman said: " Gardaí are appealing to any member of the public who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

"Gardaí are also appealing to anyone who was travelling in the Park Street, Demesne and Redcow Roundabout areas of Dundalk at this time, who may have camera (dash cam) footage to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

"Anyone with any information in relation to this incident should contact Dundalk Garda Station on 042 9388 400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station."
