Two gardai injured after shootout with man in Blanchardstown

Two gardai have been injured after a shootout between officers and a man in Dublin.

The shocking scenes transpired this evening in the Whitechapel area of Blanchardstown.

Several garda cars, trucks, and personnel flooded the area in response to reports of a man firing an automatic rifle out of his window.

Backup quickly rushed to the scene after one officer was reportedly shot in the hand, with another shot in the foot.

Both officers' were transported to nearby Connolly Hospital, and their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A machine gun and a pistol were recovered at the scene after the tense standoff that lasted a number of hours.

One man was arrested at the scene and is currently being held in Blanchardstown Garda Station.

Gardai said: "One male is currently in custody in Blanchardstown Garda station. Two Garda members are currently being treated at Connolly Memorial Hospital for non life threatening gun shot wounds."
