Two Gardai badly hurt after 45-minute car chase on rural Kerry roads

Two Gardai were injured after a lengthy car chase across Kerry last weekend.

Officers on patrol in Caherciveen were drawn to a car on the road at 12:15am on Friday night/Saturday morning which then failed to stop when followed.

Gardai pursued the vehicle which brought them on a 45-minute chase towards Killarney before the car crashed on Listry Bridge around 1am.

The suspect vehicle collided with a garda patrol car leading to serious damage to both cars.

Another Garda vehicle was also damaged in the pursuit.

The teenage driver of the car was arrested at the scene but later released without charge.

The passenger in the vehicle is thought to have fled on foot but was located later - this individual was not arrested.

Superintendent Flor Murphy told the Irish Mirror that two officers were badly injured in the crash and required hospital treatment - however neither injury was deemed serious or life-threatening.

Superintendent Murphy confirmed an active investigation is underway.
