Two gangsters beaten to death in Punjab's Goindwal Jail, another sustains injuries

AMRITSAR: Two gangsters reportedly named in the murder of Sidhu Moosewala were beaten to death while another sustained serious injuries during a clash between members of two gangs in the Goindwal Jail in Tarn Taran district on Sunday.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Tarn Taran, Gurmeet Singh Chohan informed that Mandeep Singh alias Toofan and Manmohan Singh alias Mohna had died while Keshav was injured and referred to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar.

SSP informed that all of them were lodged in an isolated zone in a high-security area in the Goindwal Jail. At around 3pm on Sunday, when they were set free for some time as per jail manual, they had a scuffle resulting in serious injuries to Toofan and Mohna who later died on way to the hospital.

He said the preliminary investigations revealed that the fight occurred between two groups of Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria.

Sources informed that sharp-edged weapons were used in the scuffle. According to sources, Toofan was a standby shooter during the killing of Sidhu Mossewala and owes allegiance to Bhagwanpuria group.

Unconfirmed reports also suggest that a couple of inmates also sustained injuries during the incident. Toofan was close to the site of the murder of Sidhu Moosewala along with one more sharpshooter. He went underground after the murder of Sidhu Moosewala but was later arrested by police along with other accomplices.

SSP said police would begin investigations and lodge FIR on the basis of the report of jail administration.
