Two Frankie & Benny's restaurants in Leeds set to 'shut permanently'

Frankie & Benny's looks set to permanently close at least two restaurants in Leeds as it struggles to deal with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Last month The Restaurant Group, which owns Frankie & Benny's, revealed plans to close 125 restaurants across the country and said the move could affect up to 3,000 jobs.

The chain has a list on its website of restaurants which will reopen this month following the lockdown, but the restaurants in Crown Point Shopping Park and The Light in Leeds city centre are not on the list.

It is understood that any restaurants that have not been included have been axed.

A message from the firm reads: "If your nearest restaurant isn't available, we've sadly had to close our doors.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and look forward to welcoming you  to one of our restaurants soon."

Frankie and Benny's has been contacted for clarification on this and details about how many jobs will be lost.

The Restaurant Group said it had been on "the sharp end of the Covid-19 pandemic" and has been forced to close restaurants so it can reduce rent costs.
