Harrowing evidence has emerged of sickening abuse at a former boys’ school.
Two ex-pupils of Dr Guthrie’s told of sex attacks, brutal beatings and being forced to swim naked in front of teachers in the 1970s.
Now in their 60s, both men have bravely contacted Scotland’s ongoing child abuse inquiry.
One of the men, 62, from Hamilton, told the Record: “The place was a nightmare.”
He was 11 when sent to the school for troubled youths in Liberton, Edinburgh.
He recalled: “One of the teachers broke my hands repeatedly with keys. I couldn’t eat my dinner. I couldn’t hold the fork.
“They were these big Victorian keys and he smashed them down on my hands. He was a pure f******* b******.
He stabbed me in the back with a key. I’ve got a hole in my spine. I’ve had problems all my life, it was agony.”
He also said told of a “perverted” sex attack by another teacher.
He said: “In the swimming pool we were all naked, we didn’t have any trunks. We were all in a circle and got spanked.
“He used to take movies of the boys naked.”
Another ex-pupil, now 65, from Yorkshire, said: “One teacher stabbed me in the forehead with a pencil. I’ve still got a black dot on my forehead and every time I look in the mirror, I see it.”
He added: “One of the teachers came on to me sexually. I ran away and tried to report it but got the belt across my backside.”
Dr Guthrie’s is being probed by the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry.
A spokesman said: “We can’t comment on specific individuals.”
