Two former Manchester United players send Solskjaer message to Ed Woodward

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has endured his fair share of pressure this season but two former club stars feel that should not be the case.

The Red Devils got back to winning ways this evening as they edged past Partizan Belgrade 1-0 in the Europa League but the return to the rigours of the Premier League schedule awaits.

United face Norwich City on the road this Sunday in a game they must desperately win to arrest a poor start to the season which has them sat 14th in the top tier.

Solskjaer initially enjoyed a great honeymoon period as caretaker boss after taking over from Jose Mourinho last December, but has struggled results wise since landing the job permanently.

Two former United stars in Paul Scholes and Robin van Persie , though, insists that Solskjaer must be afforded time to overhaul his squad, with the duo sending a message to the club's board.

Both of them appeared on BT Sport for the Europa League fixture and provided their support.

"It has been a rough start," Van Persie. "What is tough for Solskjaer is it's not his team. He needs time."

Scholes added: "When you assess the season so far, 14th tells you everything. It has not been good enough.

"But we have to trust what Ole is doing. He's right at the start of his rebuild. His first three signings have done very well. I've still got the faith. Let him carry on."
