Two foods you should cut out if struggling to sleep at night

There are certain foods you should try ditching if you struggle to get sufficient sleep at night.

According to experts at The Sleep Association, there are two foods in particular which could be negatively impacting your rest - reports Birmingham Live.

Both tomatoes and onions can cause distress to your digestive system as they create acid reflux issues which can lead to restlessness when it is time for bed.

There is nothing worse than hearing your alarm and feeling like you have barely slept at all.

"Onions create gas as they move through your digestive system," The Sleep Association said.

It has been found that eating onions can increase heartburn and cause reflux when you lie down.

The Sleep Association added: "That gas affects the pressure within your stomach, which can send acid back up your oesophagus, especially when you’re lying down flat.

"Sadly, both raw and grilled onions have this effect."

Onions and tomatoes take a little longer to digest than other foods.

So if you're struggling sleeping, then you may want to avoid the two foods - and instead opt for more natural sedatives.

Nuts like almonds, walnuts, pistachios, and cashews are often considered to be a good food for sleep.

Camomile tea is also a good choice if you fancy a warm drink on a cold night to boost your chances of staying asleep.
