The day before, on Monday, December 2, a 76-year-old man died in a crash near Faslane naval base. The incident happened at around noon when a red Kia Sorrento car collided with a lorry on the B872.

Sergeant Archie McGuire, of Road Patrol West, is appealing to members of the public for any information on both incidents.

He said officers are looking for anyone who may have been driving in the area at the time, adding that they are particularly keen to view any dash-cam footage, if available, relevant to the times and locations.

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101.
