Authorities in Pattaya on Wednesday raided an illegal clinic catering mainly to foreign patients, but two suspects reportedly posing as doctors managed to escape.
A team of police and health officials arrived at the Center Pattaya clinic in tambon Nong Prue at 3.30pm on Wednesday.
The clinic, housed in a four-storey building, was first approached by an undercover officer posing as a patient. After the treatment was completed, the police-led team moved in to inspect the premises.
However, during the raid, two allegedly fake doctors — a man and a woman — fled through the back of the building and escaped in two separate cars.
Police said the first floor of the building was used as a general clinic, while the second to fourth floors were rented out as rooms.
Authorities seized prescription drugs and controlled substances for examination, as well as a rubber stamp bearing the name “Dr Natichai Rueangdamrong”.
According to officials, the clinic had no legal operating licence, and neither the doctors nor pharmacists had valid professional permits displayed. The clinic catered almost exclusively to foreigners, with very few Thai patients.
Police investigators said they would examine the registration details of the two vehicles used in the escape and the phone number printed on the clinic’s business cards, to identify and summon those involved.
