Two face trial over drugging child with jet lag sleeping tablets

Two people who allegedly drugged a child with the sleep hormone melatonin for more than six years are to stand trial over the allegation.

Shelly Forrester, 34, and Jonathan Williams, 32, of Dundee, are accused of administering melatonin tablets – often used to treat jet lag – to the child at an address in the city between 2013 and October last year.

The pair pled not guilty at the city’s sheriff court yesterday.

Court papers allege they showed “complete disregard” to the risk or side-effects and placed the child’s health in serious danger.

It is also alleged they both knew the drug was not prescribed and did not seek medical advice.
