Two employees of Whitley Bay Beefeater are self-isolating after testing positive for Covid-19, the restaurant has confirmed.
The firm said the the two cases were unrelated as neither person had been in contact with the other "for a prolonged period of time".
Beefeater, part of hospitality company Whitbread, confirmed the restaurant, on Spanish City Plaza, was remaining open and that no other staff members had been contacted by Test and Trace.
The chain said it had "stringent measures" in place to minimise contact with customers and other employees.
ChronicleLive understands a member of staff who had been working in the Whitley Ba y restaurant stayed off work after feeling unwell and subsequently received a positive test result last week.
A Whitbread spokesperson said: "We can confirm that two members of the team are self-isolating after testing positive for Covid-19, these cases are unrelated as neither team member had been in contact with each other for a prolonged period of time.

"All our team members receive extensive health and safety training and our restaurants are operating under a new enhanced hygiene regime, designed specifically in response to COVID-19 to safeguard the well- being of our guests and team members.
"We will continue to follow any guidance provided by the local health authorities, at this time no other members of the team have been contacted by Test and Trace and as such the restaurant will remain open as usual.”
