Emmerdale seems to be a hotbed for romance - with actors finding love away from the cameras.
There are a number of couples who have found love in real life while appearing in the Yorkshire-based soap even though their characters were not romantically linked in the show.
Three sets of love birds are currently still working in the Dales, but their paths to finding true love were not as rocky as that of Duncan Preston and Susan Penhaligon.
The two former Emmerdale stars' relationship could have been turned into a dramatic soap storyline.
Duncan, who played Doug Potts up until last year, wed Susan back in 1986 - but their marriage wasn't to last as they split up just six years later.
Sadly, the couple got divorced in 1992, however, there was a plot twist as they reconciled and decided to get back together in 1997.

Despite rekindling 24 years ago, the pair are yet to remarry but have remained in a long-term relationship.
Emmerdale viewers will all know who Duncan is, having played Laurel Thomas' dad during two different spells across 13 years.
But only the most devout fans will recognise Susan, who appeared in 13 episodes in 2006 as Jean Hope.
Jean was the first wife of hapless Emmerdale favourite Bob Hope, whom he married and divorced twice, and the mother of Dawn and Jamie Hope.
Duncan first set foot in the village the year after Susan's short stint, meaning the couple were never actually employed at the same time and didn't film scenes together.
Susan is known for her role in 1976 drama series Bouquet of Barbed Wire and for her role as Helen Barker in the sitcom A Fine Romance.

As well as a substantial stage career, Susan is also a big film star who has appeared in Under Milk Wood, No Sex Please We're British, The Land That Time Forgot, The Uncanny and in Count Dracula.
She has also frequently been on our TV screens in shows such as Doctor Who, Casualty and a whopping five separate stints as different characters on Doctors.
As for Duncan, his first soap role wasn't actually in Emmerdale as he played DS Todd in EastEnders in 1987.
The renowned Shakespearean actor has appeared in many Royal Shakespeare company productions, including Macbeth with Sir Ian McKellen and Dame Judi Dench.
Known for his work in TV productions written by Victoria Wood, Duncan was cast as Doug Potts in October 2006 and started filming on Emmerdale the following year.
In July 2010, he took a break from the soap to tread the boards in a stage version To Kill A Mockingbird as iconic lawyer Atticus Finch.

It was initially supposed to be a five-month break, but Duncan didn't actually return to the Dales until 2014.
Speaking of his return, Duncan commented: "It is lovely to be back in Yorkshire as part of the Emmerdale family. It feels like I have come home and I'm really excited about what is ahead for Doug."
During his time in the village, Doug was at the centre of some explosive storylines, such as his breakdown after his divorce from wife Hilary and daughter Laurel's alcohol abuse.
There were also some hilariously awkward moments, including Doug been arrested for scratching his crotch in front of Brenda Walker.
He was released without charge when it was revealed he had caught an STI after sleeping with Bonnie Drinkwater.

In his final years, Doug had a romance with Brenda and started growing cannabis to deal with his severe back pain.
At the start of last year, Emmerdale fans were gutted when it was announced that Brendan would be leaving the soap for good.
After going to Australia for Sandy Thomas' funeral, Doug decided to move halfway across the world after being invited to stay their permanently by Betty Eagleton.
Although some Emmerdale fans did blast his sudden exit, claiming Doug would not be allowed to move to Australia in such a short space of time.
*Emmerdale airs tonight on ITV at 7pm
