Two Egyptian men were caught working illegally at a car wash in Bristol today (January 20) in an operation by immigration enforcement officers.
Bosses of Super Hand Carwash on the busy Bath Road, in Totterdown, now face a fine of up to £40,000 after the firm was given a civil penalty referral notice warning.
A Home Office spokesman said they targeted the business along with Avon and Somerset Police following a tip-off.
He said: "Checks identified that two Egyptian men were working illegally.
"They were a 31-year-old who had overstayed his visa and a 38-year-old who had entered the UK illegally. Both must now report regularly to Immigration Enforcement while their cases are progressed."
Bosses at the business were served the civil penalty referral notice, which means they could be fined up to £20,000 per illegal worker if they cannot show appropriate right-to-work document checks were carried out. This includes seeing a passport or Home Office document confirming permission to work.
