But nothing quite hits the spot like a burger when you're looking for some comfort food to soothe the soul.
Now, food experts have trawled the country looking for the best burgers in the UK - and two spots stood out in the Scottish capital.
Stag Web comprised a list of "the UK's top 30 badass burger joints" for 2020, with Holyrood 9A and The Black Fox making the roundup.
Old Town's Holyrood 9A can found just off the Royal Mile. Inside, it's chic yet cosy and apparently serves some of the best burgers in the country.
This includes their signature "Holyrood" burger, which comes with 6oz steak patty, smoked bacon, crispy shallots, slaw and maple bourbon sauce on a brioche bun.
Meanwhile, Leith boozer The Black Fox is the place to go if you enjoy washing down burgers with the best of craft beer - not to mention their grand cocktails and gourmet hotdogs.
The Antler writes that this gastropub serves the "finest patty stacks the Scottish capital has ever cast eyes (and tastebuds) on".
