Two easy methods to stop condensation on your windows

With the recent cold weather, you may have noticed more condensation on your windows.

Condensation occurs when there is a build-up of moisture in the air. Condensation is caused when moisture held in warm air meets a cold surface like a window or wall and condenses into water droplets.

Often you'll find condensation on your bedroom windows in the mornings, but TikTok property expert @thatpropertyguy said: "A lot of people say they only get condensation on one window in the morning and I guarantee it’s going to be your bedroom window."

In the video, he shows a window in his bedroom which is covered in condensation at 7.53am, reports the Express. The reason for this is a combination of the cold air outside and the people sleeping inside.

He said: “Overnight the moisture from your breath is going to collect on the cold surface of the window. [It’s the] same principle when you breathe on a window.”

This can be even worse if you leave your bedroom door closed, meaning the excess moisture has nowhere to escape from. The self-proclaimed property enthusiast shares his tips and tricks on TikTok with an audience of 478.5k followers and has two simple solutions to put a stop to condensation building up in your bedroom.

He explained two simple methods to reduce the amount of condensation that gathers on your windows. He said: “Limit it from happening by opening the window or getting a dehumidifier."

Opening the window will mean that the moist air can escape outside of the room, while a dehumidifier works by drawing warm air currents into its coils via a fan.

The warm air contracts as it's fed through the refrigerated coils of the machine and condensation is left inside the dehumidifier. Dehumidifiers can be an expense, but they do come in a variety of price points. You can also buy disposable dehumidifiers for as little as £1.49 from B&M.

These can then be placed near to affected areas of the home, and disposed of once full.
