Two East Lothian beaches named among the best in UK for being dog friendly

With the summer still upon us there is plenty of time to hit the beach and take in those glorious rays.

And what better way to do that than with your beloved four legged pooch by your side. But in order to make sure you both enjoy your day out, it is imperative to make sure that the beach is as welcoming for dogs as it is for humans.

Luckily for you folks, two beaches within an hours drive of Edinburgh have just been named as some of the best sandy spots to enjoy a day out with your dog in the UK. Research that was carried out by ShowersToYou.co.uk analysed Google ratings and reviews for over 150 beaches that had no dog restrictions in order to find the best spots in the country.

They found that both YellowCraig and Seacliff in East Lothian were amongst the ten best. Coming in at sixth place on the list, with a score of 8.62, Yellowcraig finished slightly above Seacliff that landed in eighth with a score of 8.35, the Daily Record reports.

Both beaches are located on Scotland’s infamous “golf cost” between Gullan and North Berwick. Yellowcraig is known for its stunning views across the Firth of Forth and onlookers will be able to spot the small uninhabited isle of Fidra - which is understood to have inspired Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.

Seacliff is a hidden gem in the East Lothian beach crown as it tends to be more secluded and calm on a sunny day than other nearby beaches. This means it is perfect for a visit with your dog, and whilst you are in the area, you will also be able to take in the breathtaking ruins of Tantallon Castle.

Oh, and look out for the intriguing little harbour known as the Gegan.

Martin Smith, owner of Showerstoyou.co.uk provided some comments on the research: "The beach is synonymous with UK weather, just like BBQs and Pub Gardens. Though for families, a trip to the beach requires some planning, especially if there is a pet in tow!

"Being able to bring your furry friend to the beach with you means they get some exercise, and the healing properties of the salt water can improve their coat, restoring it to its natural shine."
