Two drivers arrested after separate crashes on suspicion of driving whilst impaired in Fife

Two drivers have been arrested in separate incidents after both were suspected of being impaired whilst driving in Fife.

Firstly, an Audi driver collided with vehicles at roadworks on the B981 near Kirkcaldy, leaving the vehicle with severe damage.

The driver then failed a roadside drugs test - with the result showing positive for cocaine - say police.

The other driver had a number of collisions before officers found that the driver was impaired after finding them at the A92 Bankhead roundabout between Thornton and Glenrothes. The white vehicle was badly damaged after hitting a road sign, said police.

Somehow, nobody was injured in either incident but both drivers were arrested, according to Road Policing Scotland.

Road safety charity Brake says drug-driving is a factor in more than one in 20 fatal crashes in the UK.

Under the influence of cocaine or opiates, the risk of a fatal or serious injury crash is between two and 10 times more likely.

Drivers can receive a minimum 12-month driving ban, a criminal record, up to six months in prison and/or a fine of up to £5,00 as a result of a conviction for drug-driving.

The penalty for death by dangerous driving under the influence of drugs is a maximum of 14 years in jail.
