Two dogs born and raised in a barn have been waiting 300 days for a new home

Two Border Collies are desperate for a new home after spending 300 days at RSPCA’s Bryn-y-Maen rescue centre.

Lassie, five, and Pippin, two, started their lives with little human interaction, had never worn a collar or been on a walk, and barely seen the outside.

They were found in a run down barn along with 43 others.

After months of care and rehabilitation at RSPCA’s Bryn-y-Maen Animal Centre in Upper Colwyn Bay, the two have come on leaps and bounds.

Now, they are waiting patiently for a new home but no one has stepped forward to adopt them.

Animal care assistant at Bryn-y-Maen, Callum Bartley, explained it took a while to build a bond with the two dogs.

He said: “For a couple of months we would just sit outside their kennels throwing high value treats in for them.

“Once they were comfortable with that we fed them through the kennel bars before letting them out in the main block, leaving food bowls in different areas and gradually introducing more staff around them.

“The next step was to get them used to a lead and a collar and about three months after they arrived, they were finally ready to go for a walk.

“This may sound like a long time for some people but we know when you work with these types of dogs you should never rush them and let them do everything at their own speed.”

Despite numerous appeals including on RSPCA’s social media sites, Lassie and Pippn have yet to find a home.

They are two of the longest staying dogs that the charity is looking after in Wales.

It would be the best Christmas present in the world to give these two a loving home before Christmas.

Both need to be the only dogs in the home and can't live with cats.

Pippin needs an adult only household while Lassie needs experienced owners but is able to be around children of at least teenage age.

They also need to live in a rural or semi rural location to allow them plenty of room.

Anyone who thinks they could offer a suitable home complete an application form and email it to brynymaen@rspca.org.uk.
