Two decades-old mass graves unearthed in Karabakh, Azerbaijan claims

Azerbaijan authorities said on Friday that two mass graves have been discovered in the Karabakh region, one in the proximity of the city of Shusha and another near the town of Khojaly.

The graves are believed to contain the remains of civilians who went missing during the First Karabakh War.

Experts have unearthed bones and other fragments belonging to at least seven individuals. Evidence found points to the possibility that they were tortured before their deaths. The civilians were likely buried on site nearly 25 years ago.

The second grave, near Shusha, contains remains pointing to at least five individuals buried there. Karabakh was the site of mass killings during the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
