Two deaths at North East hospitals as 77 further fatalities recorded across England

Another two coronavirus deaths have been recorded at North East hospitals as deaths in England rose by 77 on Wednesday.

The figures were released by NHS England and includes patients who tested positive for coronavirus and died in hospital.

In our region, one death was recorded at Gateshead and another at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS trust.

The patient who died in Gateshead passed away more than a month ago, on May 6.

However there can be delays in reporting a coronavirus death until post-mortem examination results are received.

The death in South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Trust happened on June 13.

All but two of the 77 patients who died in England had underlying health conditions.

The latest deaths were among people aged between 29 and 98.

The death toll of 77 is the lowest recorded on Wednesday since before lockdown.

There were daily increases of 109 on June 10, 215 on June 3, 209 on May 27, 235 on May 20 and 329 on May 13.

The highest rise on a Wednesday was 936 on April 8 when the UK was in the deadliest days of its outbreak.
