Two dealers jailed after Scots raids uncovered huge haul of drugs including heroin and crack cocaine

Two drug dealers have been sentenced to prison after police seized more than £350k of illicit substances in Edinburgh.

Moses Irungu, 40, and Nonththuzelo Halana, 44, were both jailed today following a string of raids at properties in the capital last year.

The major Police Scotland operation kicked off in May 2020 as two officers searched two properties on Pilton Drive North and Steads Place.

Cops uncovered 22 kilograms of amphetamine, two kilos of heroin and £10,000 of cash at both properties.

Irungu was then arrested in connection to the recovery of the illicit goods.

A property at Ferry Gait Crescent was later searched the following month - which lead to the recovery of crack cocaine, a mixing agent and more than £4,000 in money.

Halana was traced at this address and was arrested in connection with this incident and the previous seizures.

The pair pled guilty to drug supply offences when they appeared at the High Court in Glasgow last month.

Sentencing took place at the High Court in Aberdeen, where Irungu was sentenced to four and a half years in jail, while Halana was given eight months.

Police Scotland said that the convictions should send a ‘clear message’ to those “expecting to profit from other people’s misery”.

Detective Inspector Gary Reid, from the Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit, said: “We welcome the conviction and today's sentencing of Irungu and Halana for their involvement in the supply of controlled drugs.

"This intelligence led operation resulted in over £350,000 worth of controlled drugs being seized.

“We would like to send a clear message to anyone who is involved in the supply of drugs onto the streets of Scotland that if you expect to profit from other people’s misery, expect to be targeted by law enforcement.

“It's clear Irungu and Halana were operating at a significant level in the drugs supply chain and bringing offenders to court, recovering illegal substances and disrupting the supply chain is our highest priority. No one is untouchable.

"The public continue to play a vital role in assisting our investigations into drug related activity and anyone with any concerns about drugs, or who has information about those involved in the drugs, should contact Police Scotland on 101 or make an anonymous report to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
