Two dead in early morning motorbike crash as police launch investigation

Two people have died in a motorbike crash, which happened in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash in Newton Heath, Manchester, after reports of a single vehicle collision involving a motorbike at 5am.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that two people died at the scene.

Their sexes or ages haven't been confirmed.

Investigations are ongoing and police are appealing for witnesses to the fatal smash.

The A62 Oldham Road was closed between Monsall Road and Thorp Road as a result.

In a statement, GMP said: "Police were called to Oldham Road in Newton Heath just after 5am this morning, to reports of a single vehicle collision involving a motorbike.

"Emergency services attended, and sadly, two people have died at the scene.

"No arrests have been made and the area remains cordoned off.

"Officers are investigating and are requesting people avoid the area if possible.

"Enquiries on-going."
