Two Dead Found At Denver Homeless Shelter Hotel

police

Authorities in Denver reported that two individuals, a man and a woman, were discovered deceased on Saturday night at a former hotel being utilized as a shelter for homeless individuals. The incident took place at the former DoubleTree Hotel located in Denver’s Central Park neighborhood around 9:20 p.m.

The Denver Police Department has initiated a homicide investigation into the matter but has not disclosed further details, including the manner of death or whether the victims were residents of the shelter. As of now, no arrests have been made, and information regarding a suspect remains unavailable.

In November, a nonprofit organization specializing in affordable housing acquired the 300-room building. The city of Denver is currently leasing the property, which is still categorized as a hotel, as part of Mayor Mike Johnston’s House1000 initiative. This initiative is designed to address and reduce homelessness in Denver.

Local residents who frequent the area expressed concerns about safety, noting that authorities have been present multiple times. Some individuals questioned the city's responsibility in ensuring the safety of residents. Leon Mickling, a nearby hotel resident, emphasized the city's role in both housing individuals and guaranteeing their safety.

In response to the situation, the mayor's office issued a statement confirming Mayor Johnston's awareness of the incident. The mayor's office stated that they are collaborating with law enforcement to gather additional information regarding the tragic event.
