Two people were killed and at least four others were wounded in a mass shooting at a Toronto street festival as police continue to search for the suspect.

Toronto police warned the public that an active shooting was underway Saturday night at the city's Salsa on St Clair festival.

Six people were hit in the shooting and two died, police confirmed in a social media post around 8:20 p.m.

The attack reportedly happened in the area of St Clair Avenue W and Arlington Avenue while revelers were enjoying the festival.

City officials are warning the public to stay clear of the area as their investigation continues.

“A large police presence remains in the area as officers continue their investigation,” police said in a post. “Please continue to avoid the area and follow directions from emergency personnel.”

The festival celebrates Latin culture and has been a mainstay of the community for the last 22 years, according to CNN.

No information has been made available concerning the identity of the shooter.

Toronto police noted in a social media post that they had secured the scene, but that the suspect or suspects was “still outstanding.”

Ontario Premier Doug Ford thanked law enforcement and urged the person responsible to face justice.

“I am devastated by the senseless violence at the Salsa on St. Clair Festival that has claimed two lives and injured others. My thoughts are with the victims, their families and everyone affected,” he wrote on X Saturday.

“Thank you to Toronto Police and our first responders for responding to this horrific incident. The person responsible must be caught, brought to justice and spend the rest of their life behind bars,” Ford added.
