Two dead as tornadoes leave trail of destruction across multiple states

  • Severe storms and tornadoes struck northeastern Illinois and northwestern Indiana on Tuesday, resulting in two fatalities and multiple injuries.
  • The storms caused widespread devastation, leveling homes and businesses, downing trees and power lines, particularly in Lake Village, Indiana, and near Kankakee, Illinois.
  • Authorities, including Newton County Sheriff Shannon Cothran and Lake Township Fire Department spokeswoman Laurie Postma, confirmed the deaths and urged people to avoid damaged areas.
  • Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker acknowledged the storm damage and pledged support for recovery efforts in affected communities.
  • The National Weather Service warned of continued severe weather threats, including intense tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail, across the region and extending to the southern Great Lakes.
