Two dead after light plane crashes in bushland near Appin, south-west of Sydney

Emergency workers responding to reports of a scrub fire south-west of Sydney have discovered a crashed light plane with two bodies inside.

The victims of the crash, which was found on Monday afternoon after an extensive search of the area, are yet to be formally identified.

The Campbelltown Police Area Command has established a crime scene around the area, near Appin Road and Colliery Road in Appin.

Police say they will work with investigators from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) to determine what took place in the lead-up to the crash.

They say no further information is available at this stage.
