Two people have died after a driver smashed into three parked cars in a hit-and-run crash in East Sussex.

Police said the car hit the stationary vehicles at the junction of South Cliff and King Edward’s Parade in Eastbourne at around 9:30pm on Friday.

Two people sitting in the same parked car were pronounced dead at the scene. They have not yet been identified.

Police said the driver of the other vehicle ran from the scene but was later arrested.

The driver is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police were called to a four-car road traffic collision.

“Three people were involved. Sadly, two were pronounced dead at the scene.

"The driver of the vehicle is assisting police with their enquiries.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Harfield.
