Two dead after car collides into two vehicles during high speed police chase in Salford

Two men have died after the vehicle they were traveling in crashed during a police chase.

Officers on patrol in Salford spotted a car being driven at speed at around 11.40pm on Wednesday before initiating a pursuit.

During the chase, in Frederick Road, the car collided with two third party vehicles, leaving a man and woman with serious injuries.

Photos from the scene show police officers on the street near three cars, with one having had two of its doors removed and partially covered in a sheet.

The B-road, which runs over the River Irwell and railway lines, is home to a number of businesses, as well as the University Of Salford Podiatry Clinic.

The two men from the pursued vehicle were pronounced dead shortly after the crash, while the other patients, both from the same vehicle, were taken to hospital.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed no arrests have been made.

According to a witness, undertakers arrived at 3am.

The identities of the fatalities have not been made public.

A police press release added that in line with normal procedure, the incident has been referred to GMP's Professional Standards Branch and the IOPC.

The same road was shut off in April after a "major crash" involving a car and a bicycle, with the cyclist sustaining life-threatening injuries.

Pictures from the scene showed a large police cordon in place.

A spokesman said at the time: "Police were called just before 1.40pm on Sunday 12 April 2020 to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a bicycle on Frederick Road in Salford.

"The cyclist has been taken to hospital to be treated for injuries sustained."

The force later added: "The cyclist was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where he remains in a serious condition."
