LUCKNOW: Wedding celebrations turned into mourning when two persons were killed and at least 10 persons were injured after a wall collapsed at the venue in Bijnaur area in Sarojininagar on Thursday night.
The deceased were identified as Ram Kishore Tiwari 45 and 5-year-old Shraddha.
The victims, the four of whom are critical,were admitted to a nearby hospital.
The police are yet to ascertain what triggered the collapse. The incident took place around 11.30pm when wedding rituals had ended, and guests had just begun eating. "Suddenly, the wall, which was not constructed properly collapsed, and all was over in a few minutes," said Vishwas Singh, an eyewitness of the incident.
He immediately informed U following which the police arrived on the spot. According to police, there were at least 11 to 12 people injured when a part of the balcony collapsed.
SHO Bijnaur, Rajkumar, who was the first to reach the spot, told TOI that the house belonged to one Jagdish Yadav and his niece was getting married. With the help of locals all the victims have been rescued and rushed to a local hospital. A police force has been deployed at the spot, said Rajkumar.
