Two-day nightmare for Marino residents plagued daily and nightly by theft gangs

Gardai have launched an investigation after a north Dublin suburb was hit with a spate of car and property break-ins this week.

A number of similar incidents have been reported across the Marino area over a two-day nightmare for the locals.

Gardai were called after residents spotted three men attempting to break into a car on Brian Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Additionally, a number of cars were also broken into in the early hours of Sunday in a number of areas including Shelmartin Avenue, Casino Road, and Croydon Green.

Residents have been warned to remain vigilant as the Marino/Fairview - Neighbourhood Watch page on Facebook has urged people to report any type of suspicious activity.

Gardai have appealed for CCTV footage of person or persons acting suspiciously at the time of both the incidents.

A Garda spokesman said: "Gardaí received reports of anti-social behaviour in the Brian Road area of Dublin City at proximately 2:30am on the 5th of May 2021.

"Upon arrival at the scene there were no persons present.

"No offences were disclosed."

He continued: "Gardaí attended the scene of an attempted burglary that occurred at a premises in the Shelmartin Avenue area of Marino, Co Dublin at approximately 7am on the 2nd of May 2021.

"No belongings were taken from the premises and no injuries were reported during the course of this incident.

"No arrests have yet been made and investigations are currently ongoing.

He added: "Gardaí also attended the scene of an attempted theft from a vehicle in the Casino Road area of Marino, Co. Dublin at approximately 6:30am on the 2nd of May 2021.

"No belongings were taken from this vehicle and no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

"No arrests have yet been made and investigations are ongoing."
