Two cyclists rushed to hospital after being hit by car

Two cyclists have been taken to hospital after being struck by a car this morning.

The casualties were struck by a Hyundai car just after 10am on the Wirral.

Police confirmed both cyclists have been taken to hospital after the crash on Campbeltown Road, Tranmere by the Cammel Laird Roundabout.

The accident sparked a partial closure of the adjoining A41 New Chester Road Southbound as emergency services attended the scene.

Police said the male driver stopped at the scene and the cyclists' injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Witnesses are being urged to come forward as is anyone with dashcam footage.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We received reports of an road traffic collision involving a car and two cyclists on Campbeltown Road, Tranmere, at around 10.05am today.

"The two cyclists have been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries."

The spokesperson added: "Road closures have now been lifted in the area."

North West Ambulance Service confirmed they were called just before 10am "to reports that a car had hit two cyclists" and both had been taken to hospital.
