Two people are in critical condition following a serious collision between a car and an articulated lorry on the N80.
The incident occurred on the N80 Tullamore - Mountmellick road on the Laois / Offaly border at around 5pm on Monday evening.
Emergency services are currently at the scene and gardai are appealing for witnesses to the crash.
One of the injured parties is understood to be in their thirties, while the other is a young child.
Both are in critical condition.
A garda spokesman said: "Gardaí at Tullamore are appealing for witnesses and information following a serious road traffic collision on the N80 Tullamore - Mountmellick road at approximately 5pm today 27th May 2019.
"Gardaí and Emergency Services are at the scene where it's believed a car and an articulated lorry collided.
"Further information will follow.
"Witnesses are asked to contact Tullamore Garda Station on 0579327600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."
The N80 is now closed
AA Roadwatch said: "The N80 has been closed on the Laois side of Tullamore after a serious crash between Scrubb Cross and Killeigh.
"Traffic will be diverted."
