Two critical at the John Hunter following afternoon Dora Creek crash

A CRASH in Lake Macquarie has left two people in critical condition, police said.

A man and teenage girl were rushed to the John Hunter Hospital after emergency services were called to Wangi Road at Dora Creek about 1.40pm Sunday.

Initial reports indicated a Holden Kruse sedan had collided with a Hyundai hatchback towing a box trailer.

"Police have been told the Hyundai stopped on the side of the road and the occupants - an 84-year-old man, a 57-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl - were out of the vehicle when the crash occurred," police said.

The man and teenager were taken to hospital and were in critical condition, police said, while the woman was also hospitalised with abrasions.

The Holden's 87-year-old driver was not injured but underwent mandatory testing at a hospital.

A crime scene was established and the circumstances of the crash are under investigation.

Any witnesses, or anyone with dash cam footage, is urged to call 1800 333 000.
