Two critical after north Qld house fire

Two people have been critically injured and a third person is in a stable condition after a house fire in north Queensland.

Paramedics arrived at the home after the blaze broke on Home Hill Rd, Ayr, about 5.41am on Tuesday.

A 65-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman were both taken to Ayr Hospital in a critical condition.

One person has since been airlifted to Townsville and both remain critical.

Emergency services were first called to the address at 2:15am in response to a mental health matter, Acting Chief Superintendent Chris Lawson said on Tuesday.

Police and ambulance officers spoke to all parities involved and left a short time later.

A man in his 20s who came to assist was also injured and taken to the hospital where he's in a stable condition.

Firefighters are investigating the cause of the blaze.
