Two crashes on A92 plus Scotrail cancellations cause triple dose of misery for Fife commuters

In Fife, a police car has been involved in a serious accident on the westbound A92 near Cowdenbeath which is causing miles of tailbacks, after a car transporter hit a police vehicle while it was stationary. You can read live updates on this incident here .

A second A92 crash then closed the southbound A92 near Kilmany.

Also closer to Edinburgh a tractor has struck a bridge between Inverkeithing & North Queensferry. Scotrail have explained: "for safety reasons, trains can't cross it until it's been inspected. Engineers from @NetworkRailSCOT are on their way to do this."

Scotrail have tweeted that Stagecoach buses will accept valid rail tickets and smartcards on their services within Fife due to the train issue, however the bus company have announced that their Edinburgh-Fife bus routes are all disrupted due to the crashes.

Police Scotland confirmed that an officer has been seriously injured in the first accident, saying:

"The crash involved a transporter and a police vehicle.

"The police vehicle had been stationary and assisting a vehicle which had stopped. One officer has been airlifted to hospital with what are believed to be serious injuries and the A92 westbound remains closed."

Scotrail subsequently tweeted: "UPDATE: The engineer has confirmed that there's no damage to the bridge, so the line has reopened. We're working to get services back on the move ASAP. "

However, the knock-on effect from the closure has caused widespread train delays and cancellations:
